Doh! I should have got my brain in gear before opening my mouth, shouldn't I?

I've been researching Cushing's out of interest (because it's three in the morning and I can't sleep) and the pro and anti luzerne debate is interesting.

Racaille Easily done, but you are right when you say horse owners get a little too precious about their horses and rush out to buy the supplemental bagged food. In the wild they would be eating grass and wild herbs and none of this fancy stuff that we try and pump into them. I personally advocate regular exercise and keep horses on a basic diet of hay or alfalfa, which in the summer we supplement with grains as our horses play polo and in the winter we give them crushed maize to let them warm up in the colder evenings. When issues like the trailrider has the old hands will tell you regular exercise and a diet of low grade hay or a mix of hay and alfalfa. I understand where trailrider is coming from to give a supplement to make feeding the medicines easier. Sadly with Cushings you will never be able to cure it and only able to give some relief to the symptons.

I'm embarrassed that my posts sound judgmental and I really didn't mean them to be. I was just trying to find a simpler way, but of course I do understand the need to hide meds and also to avoid 'hard feed envy' with the companion.

Horse feeding is such a minefield, what with everyone's different opinion. And I do realise that we can't feed them exactly as they would eat in the wild or there would be no time to ride them LOL!
