Well, Provence is a big area! There is a lorry that comes to Cadenet several times a year, there's a trader or two in Cavaillon market and a place in l'Isle sur la Sorgue that sells day-old chicks. Any of these near you?

Thanks for the info. The closer to Aix the better although I don't mind a bit of travel. I was hoping to find a dealer who sells a variety of birds.

The guy who comes to Cadenet offers a variety of birds and I have found him to be correct and his fowl (I have bought chickens and ducks) to be healthy. Maddeningly, I cannot find his card but if you phone Roux garden centre  in Cadenet they will tell you when he is next due to come - and then you can phone him direct to order specialist birds.

But you might be better off just chatting to your neighbours. I've had bantams from mine and also Sussex Light chickens. The bantams were much more canny about avoiding the fox, but also much better at hiding their eggs!
