Buses & Public Transport in Monaco

Monaco public transport is supplied is served by bus and boat bus. There is also a growing use of car pooling (covoiturage). Buses and trains connect the Pricipality to France and Italy.

Bus Services in Monaco

There are five bus routes in Monaco, all operated by Cie des Autobus de Monaco (CAM). There are 143 bus stops through the Principality.

Routes

  • Line 1: Monaco Ville, Monte-Carlo, Saint Roman and return
  • Line 2: Monaco Ville, Monte-Carlo, Exotic Garden and return
  • Line 4: Railway station, Monte-Carlo, Larvotto beaches and return
  • Line 5: Railway station, Fontvieille, Hospital and return
  • Line 6: Larvotto beaches, Fontvieille and return
  • (Line 3 is a temporary route)

Busses run from approximately 07:00-21:00 seven days a week although there is a reduced service at the weekends.

Tickets and boarding

Discount ticket books are available for long term users of the Monaco bus service. Daily and weekly discount passes are also available (specifically for tourists). There are special tariffs for school children. Children under five travel free.

Tickets for single trips can be bought from the conductor on the bus. Travel cards for up to eight journeys are also available on board. All other tickets can be bought from the CAM office:

On boarding, the tickets must be validated in the machine at the front of the bus. Passengers keep their ticket for the entire journey. Board the bus at the front door and alight from the back doors, unless instructed to do otherwise by the conductor.

Night bus (Bus de Nuit)

The Bus de nuit runs from 21:20 to 01:00 except Friday and Saturdays when it continues until 04:45 taking in all major stops. 

Boat bus (Bateau bus)

The Bateau Bus (also run by CAM) is an electric-powered boat shuttle that connects the Quai des Etats-Unis to the cruise terminal with regular runs from 08:00 to 19:50, daily. The port crossing takes 10 minutes. Rates are the same as buses in the Principality with single tickets, tourist day-passes and ticket books (carnet) of 10 tickets available for regular commuters; travel is free for children under seven years. Taxis

There are two main taxi ranks which are open 24 hours a day at:

  • Avenue de Monte-Carlo (near the Casino)
  • The railway station

And four supplementary ranks at:

  • Place des Moulins
  • Avenue de la Costa
  • Fontvieille
  • Beach Plaza
Car-Pooling

Employees in Monaco can make use of the car pooling scheme for a more economical and environmentally-friendly way to get to and around Monaco. 

  • To subscribe for free to Monaco Voiturage (the Monaco car-pooling website: Click here (in French)
  • To subscribe: provide an employee number (Monaco social security number); then enter your personal details and your travel route. These details will be available for other registered users to access so that subscribers can search for matching journeys and contact can be made
  • To cancel: In the case of an unforeseen change to a subscribers daily journey, inform fellow travellers.

  • Special rates: Special parking rates and priority parking spaces are available for those who participate in this program

There is online assistance to calculate the rate that you should ask for from each passenger.

Public Elevators

There are several elevators and travelators in Monaco making it easier to walk up and down the Principality's steep hills.

The moving walkways are located:

  • between the Place des Moulins and the beaches
  • between the Princess Grace Hospital Centre and the Exotic Garden
  • between the harbor and the Avenue de la Costa
  • between the Place St. Dévote and the area of Monéghetti
  • between the Terraces of the Casino, the Congress Centre Auditorium and the Boulevard Louis II
  • between the Avenue des Citronniers and the Avenue Grande-Bretagne
  • between the highway and the Larvotto Boulevard
